Great Location

PORT MACQUARIE AIRPORT NSW

Located on the Mid North Coast between Sydney and Queensland's Gold Coast, Port Macquarie is the perfect training location, the town is a thriving coastal hub, having all the services and conveniences that you expect to find in the capital cities.

The Port Macquarie Airport has a 1586m long runway of smooth sealed bitumen with a challenging grass cross strip, lights are available on the bitumen runway and are operated through a Pilot Activated Lighting (PAL) System, as JAS are the leading flight training organisation on the Mid North Coast of New South Wales, our students get to use our training area almost exclusively, our training area covers some of the most beautiful beaches, mountain ranges and countryside in New South Wales.

Once the basics have been mastered, it's time to increase the work load. The control zones of Coffs Harbour and Tamworth are in close proximity, students learn to join circuits along with such aircraft as Beech Kingair's, DeHavilland Dash 8 turboprops and various business jets.

Learning to fly in the mountains, with their changeable weather conditions becomes an important part of the training program at JAS. Some mountain peaks, only minutes from the airfield, rise sharply to 5000 feet.

Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) takes on a new meaning at JAS, in close proximity to Port Macquarie airport are three beacons, with a further four in the local area (NDB, VOR, ILS, DME) enabling IFR approaches and fixes to be quickly established whilst still providing the enroute experience. Couple this with no taxi delays and our Category B approved operational flight simulator, the student gains maximum benefit for their flying dollar.
